This piece must be the crowning jewel, thus far, of my long campaign to create thoroughly convential-sounding music out of serial elements. The sonata-allegro movement of this composition alone sounds almost as though it were entirely diatonic: something on the order of the Franck sonata, perhaps, in its harmonic language. If I hadn't written it myself, I might have completely missed the fact it is based upon a tone row.

Whither, then, forward from here? Good question!
